Application of Sheet Metal Processing Overview

Sheet metal processing sometimes also called Plate work processing. This word comes from the English words: plate metal. Generally, some metal sheets are stamped by hand or a mold to make it plastic variation and eventually form the desired shape and size, and it can further produce more complex parts through welding a small amount of machinery, such as the chimneys commonly used in homes, in furnaces, and car shells that are all sheet metal parts.

Metal sheet punching is called sheet metal processing. Specifically, for example, chimneys, drums, fuel tanks, air ducts, elbows, heads, and gardens, funnels, etc., are manufactured using sheet metal. The main processes are shearing, bending, buttoning, bending, welding, and riveting. This needs certain geometric knowledge. Sheet metal parts are sheet hardware. That is parts that can be processed by means of stamping, bending, stretching, etc. A general definition is the parts with the same thickness during the processing. Corresponding parts are casting parts, forging parts, Machined parts, for example, the outer shell of a car is a piece of sheet metal, and some pieces of furniture made of stainless steel are pieces of sheet metal, too.

In general, the three most important steps in sheet metal processing are cutting, punching/cutting, and folding.
1.1The first step is the blanking (also known as blanking) process. Normally, on-site workers will cut through the shears to obtain the appropriate size of the part material according to the development diagram provided by the technical department. If it is a punch press, you must consider the dead zone of the clamp. After the material is finished, workers mark the item number with a marker on the surface of each piece of material.
1.2The material is then sent to a CNC punch/cutter for punching/cutting operations. In this operation, you need to program an NC (Numerical Control) code for the part being machined. Most machine tool manufacturers now provide auto-programming software (mostly domestic manufacturers cooperate with such software companies abroad for OEM sales, so they do not have their own software R & D team), which greatly facilitates the programming engineer. The factors need to be considered by the stamping/cutting program engineer are issues such as plate utilization, tooling, efficiency, and accuracy. After stamping/cutting is complete, the part is removed and micro-connected and then it is sent to the bender for bending.
1.3In the bending process, the main consideration is tool selection, bending sequence, bending compensation, bending interference, and so on. Usually there will also be random sales of bending programming software, but most domestic CNC bending machines are still artificially programmed, often relying too much on the experience of the master craftsman, on the other hand,The requirements of the manufacturing process inland are relatively low to foreign countries. and thus the efficiency has not improved, the performance of CNC bending machines did not play to the extreme.
1.4Finally, depending on the product, welding, grinding, painting, assembly, and packaging may be required.
2 In general, the sheet metal industry has been developing rapidly in recent years. This is mainly due to the following reasons.
2.1 Increased demand for production capacity. Increasingly, China has become an international processing and manufacturing center. With the continuous increase of foreign investment, the demand for metal processing capacity continues to increase. In the metal processing industry, electrical control boxes and machine housings are generally sheet metal parts. Demand for sheet metal processing capacity continues to increase.
2.2 The processing accuracy is low and it is easy to get started. As far as gold processing, accuracy is a common thing in a few wires, and the complexity of the process is also relatively high, and even some parts processes can reach dozens of ways. Therefore, gold processing companies usually require a variety of mechanical equipment to meet different process requirements. The precision of sheet metal punching is generally about ±0.1 mm, and the bending accuracy can generally reach ±0.5 mm, so the accuracy is much lower than that of gold machining.
2.3 The profit is high. Such as stamping can generally reach about 30%, and laser cutting can reach 50% or even more.
